Book Review: Angel Brings Fire

Well kiddies, here we are with another self-published author asking for a review, to which I said yes... and glad I did. His initial release is in eBook format, which suits me fine - I now prefer my Kindle over pulp. The ink doesn't run if I spill beer on it.

So, this sci-fi novel starts with astronauts landing on Mars. Apparently a second attempt: the first failed, so there's lots of drama right from the get-go. Not long into the story, they make an historical discovery: we're not alone in the universe. They find an alien in a state of suspended animation, who then slowly wakes up and eventually becomes assimilated into their team (I'm leaving out many details...). The author's creativity in setting all this up, and the execution of the plot is very engaging, while he describes how this alien eventually learns the English language. This alien is eons old, as she recounts the many "sleeps" she's had through the ages, though her memory is scant with the details of her previous experiences.

All this would be enough for an interesting story line, but the author throws in a curve ball: there's a massive comet headed for Earth, promising an extinction event like no other. What will they do? How can this alien, with many interesting abilities, talents, and powers, help them? This is the premise of the story, and the author weaves the plot line in and around some well written character development and other elements that kept me reading!

For a self-published work, there were surprisingly few grammar, spelling, and formatting issues. Not enough to mention... I've seen more in big press books. So, for a good read in the science fiction genre, I recommend "Angel Brings Fire".

4 out of 5 stars.
