Book Review: "Six Clicks Away" by Bonnie Rozanski

The premise of this (Kindle) book is that in theory, everyone on the planet is no more than 6 connections from each other, or to put in in popular terms, "6 degrees of separation". The two main characters, a couple of school friends, set out to prove this theory in the online world of "MyFace", a fictional marriage of My Space and Facebook. Not sure why the author didn't just use "Facebook", as she named many  other well-known online entities by their real name.  That aside, the plot is interesting in concept, but a little loose in execution. The story line follows the linear connection of a number of people across the globe to finally land on the Dali Lama, the initial goal of the instigators' plan to prove their theory.

As in my previous review, this book also will appeal to the 20 or 30-something crowd, as there's lots of "texting" between the characters, and other very modern technological concepts... not that it's technical, but - like I said, modern.  On the whole, I found the book end-to-end to be somewhat slow. There wasn't much to keep me really engaged, as the writing style simply laid out a linear storyline. Nothing too clever. No devices like flash-backs or flash-forwards, or any sub-plots for that matter; little if no character tension or use of archetypes... it didn't grab me by the shirt collar and scream "READ ME!" After reading the very last page, I kinda went "Huh - that's it?"

It was hard for me to determine at first if this was a self-published work, as they are usually full of formating issues and grammar mistakes. But this one was clean as a whistle, and the author does confirm it to be self-published.

All in all, I give it 3 out of 5.
